Energy programmes

I have extensive experience in programme design and management, often drawing together different organisations to work towards a common goal. This involves organisation, logistics, project management and delivery. It is best described by examples of my work.

Employee Engagement Programme for the Major Energy Users Council (MEUC)

I worked with private and public sector organisations to design and run their own energy awareness campaigns. Support was given by workshops, on-site support and use of a Toolkit.

Clients included Wessex Water, University of Birmingham, United Utilities and Thorntons Chocolate.

"Working with the MEUC on the behavioural project has provided valuable insights to the potential returns of positive employee engagement and has also assisted with shaping our own forthcoming energy awareness campaign.

Everybody involved in the project has not only provided a wealth of experience and knowledge in the subject, but also a great deal of enthusiasm and support. Thank you for all of the assistance and guidance. " John Leonard, Energy Manager, Wessex Water

Higher Education Carbon Management Programme.

I acted as a Project Director for two years for the Higher Education Carbon Management Programme on behalf of the Carbon Trust. I supplied a team of consultants to run workshops and provide on-site support to help 20 English Universities to develop 5 year Carbon Management Strategies working in conjunction with another consultancy.

Advanced Awareness Campaigns - Sustainable Energy Authority Ireland (SEAI)

A pilot programme to help public bodies in the Republic of Ireland to design and run their own energy reduction programmes focused on innovative people solutions. The participants in the 12 month programme and participants included a hospital in Cork, energy agencies, Dublin City Council, Dublin Airport and the Tyndall National Institute.

"The University of Glasgow was very pleased to take up the opportunity of participating in the Carbon Trust's Carbon Management Awareness Campaign (CMAC) managed by John Mulholland.

Our participation in the programme was well timed as it coincided with the update of the University’s 5-year Carbon Management Plan and our framework for meeting our carbon reduction targets. We were able to incorporate a number of key themes from the Campaign in raising awareness and supporting our Green Champions." Bert Young - former Carbon & Energy Manager, University of Glasgow

Carbon Management Awareness Programme (CMAC) - Carbon Trust in Scotland.

A total of 50 public sector organisations including Local Authorities, Universities and NHS Boards across Scotland participated in the programme devised and managed by Mulholland Energy over three years.

The programme included on-site and off-site support for individual organisations, collective support via workshops/seminars to design effective strategies and peer support. A Public Sector Toolkit was designed with adaptable materials (see case study CMAC).

How can I help?

  • Strategic design of multi-participant programmes
  • Programme design and project management
  • Programme implementation support
  • Design/delivery of conferences, seminars and workshops
  • Production of toolkits for adoption by participants
  • Programme monitoring and reporting
  • Programme evaluation
"We highly recommend participating in CMAC; the workshops, presentations, advice and support from John Mulholland and his team have proved invaluable in developing and implementing our Energy Awareness Strategy and Campaign.

The workshops enabled us to network with other Local Authorities; we shared ideas, experiences and solved common problems. The free consultancy days were particularly helpful in allowing us to successfully develop and deliver Energy Awareness Training to more than 100 Building Managers, as the first phase of our campaign." Caren Webster - Senior Energy Technician, Angus Council
